She serves as Director of the Diabetes Education Task Force for the International Diabetes Federation South and Central America Region (IDF SACA) and has held senior leadership roles in diabetes education, advocacy, and public health. As the mother of a daughter living with type 1 diabetes, she also brings valuable lived family experience to ImpactT1D.

Dr. Paula Andrea Díaz, MD, holds a PhD in Epidemiology and Biomedical Sciences from Sorbonne University (Paris VI) and a Master’s degree in Epidemiology from the University of Antioquia, Colombia. Her work focuses on diabetes, chronic disease prevention, epidemiological surveillance, and health promotion, with extensive experience in teaching, institutional leadership, and international collaboration. She served as Vice-Dean of Graduate Programs (2019–2023) and Coordinator of the PhD Program in Epidemiology (2017–2024) at the University of Antioquia. She is President of AMNET – America’s Network for Chronic Disease Surveillance (2018–2020; 2024–2026). Dr. Díaz participates in global research and training networks and serves as a PAHO consultant and WHO collaborator, focusing on evidence generation, capacity building, and public health strategies across the Americas.
